The Future Needs Craftsmanship
Event
As part of Future Fashion Day, the FABRIC – Future Fashion Lab invites you to a panel talk where experts from culture, design, and industry will discuss how innovation and tradition can shape the future together. New technologies such as AI and digital production processes are fundamentally transforming the work of fashion designers, opening up unprecedented possibilities. Yet one thing remains constant: craftsmanship and the human vision at the heart of every creation.
The panel will feature members of the FABRIC team, designers, industry insiders, and representatives of the cultural authority, exploring the future of fashion as a craft. The FABRIC – Future Fashion Lab itself serves both as a pioneering project and as a stage: in its transparent workshop, high-tech production meets extraordinary talent and reimagined urban concepts. Here, it becomes visible how craftsmanship, technology, and human vision come together to shape the future – driven by a strong community.

HISTORISCHE SCHAUWEBEREI BRAUNSDORF
exhibition
.…is a technical museum and a monument to architectural and production history.
In the partly still original production halls, the various process stages of the elaborate manufacturing—from yarn to finished fabric—are presented.
The existing, fully functional, and demonstrable machinery collection holds great historical technical value. Besides the original Buckskin weaving machines with Jacquard attachments from the Tannenhauer weaving mill, there are several rare specimens produced by machine-building companies from Chemnitz.

Raum der Farbe
exhibition
The variety of color combinations and patterns is demonstrated by hundreds of butterflies and birds. Birds of paradise and peacocks display their shimmering colors, and a male great bustard — rarely seen in museums — presents itself in full courtship display. However, the colors of nature are not random; they always have an effect on others. They serve as a means of communication, strategies for camouflage, warning, and attraction, and have evolved through biological processes over time.
The themed exhibition space “Color” invites visitors to rediscover the colors of nature. Animals, plants, and minerals are displayed here, sorted by color.

COURSES
Six days of intensive learning all about the Flying8 loom – understand it, use it, master it.
Alternatively, participants can focus entirely on the TMB-50 loom if preferred.
This course will set you on the right path to understanding weaving, both practically and theoretically. From thread to fabric, every step is taught, practiced, and repeated.
You will prepare warps using the Flying8 lift system and beam them with the "Best Friend" tool. You'll learn how to build bobbins and wind the weft yarn correctly. Pattern design is covered first in theory, then applied directly on the Flying8 or TMB-50 loom. You will weave samples and finished pieces.
Already have experience? Advanced topics can be arranged individually in advance.
